Students who applied for an IAESTE traineeship in previous years, but weren’t offered a traineeship are given 7 points for every year they applied in

Once jobs are issued in January/February and students express their interest in them via the Job Preference Form, they are required to write a cover letter of 250 words, explaining what makes them suitable for the job/s they applied for and how they fit the job. The cover letter will be rated by 3 people from the IAESTE Malta committee on a scale of 1 to 10, without knowledge of the identity of the applicants. Allocated points from each member are added up and a weighted average is taken, giving a maximum of 10 points.

Students are also required to write a motivation letter of 250 words, explaining why they would like to go on a traineeship. The motivation letter will be rated by 3 people from the IAESTE Malta committee on a scale of 1 to 10, without knowledge of the identity of the applicants. Allocated points from each member are added up and a weighted average is taken, giving a maximum of 10 points.

Applicants who have been active in IAESTE Malta as committee members are awarded a maximum of 5 points per semester for fulfilling the roles specified on the IAESTE Malta statute and a maximum of 5 points per semester for helping in the general running of the organisation. Committee members get 1 point for every 5 companies contacted during the job raising period. Contacting companies means phoning, emailing, and following up until a definite yes/no answer is given.

During summer, committee members can get a maximum of 5 points per month (applies during July, August and September) for helping out in the summer reception and the general running of the organisation. Duties include finding accommodation for incoming students, picking up incoming students from the airport, taking them to work, organising activities, etc…

Applicants who help the committee in any way get extra points with a maximum of 5 points per year. Applicants can help out during the Job Raising period only if they attend the Job Raising Workshop. Points can be deducted if students who are not trained by IAESTE Malta members in job raising engage in job raising, as this can harm the relationship of IAESTE Malta with companies. During summer, students can get a maximum of 5 points per month (applies during July, August and September) for helping out in the summer reception.

When two applicants have the same total of points, the study field, working industries and country preferences will be taken in consideration. The student with the best match for the job is nominated for the job. In case when equally adequate candidates have the same number of points, an interview lead by the Exchange Officer is organised as a last resort in order to choose a student.
